PROVO, UTAH — Business Insider profiled Dava founders David Ruvalcaba and Vale Diaz in a February 2022 feature on the companies working behind the scenes of the creator economy. It was the story that took Dava from a behind-the-scenes editing team to a name people in the industry recognized.
Insider reported that Dava generated more than $2.1 million in revenue in 2021 — verified with documentation — with a staff of 42, and had worked on videos for Jake Paul and Neil deGrasse Tyson among other creators.

After two years filming and editing for YouTube creators in Los Angeles, David and Vale dropped out of college and moved home to Utah. In 2019 they launched Dava to handle video editing, thumbnails, graphic design and social media for creators, so creators could focus on producing content and scaling their brands.
The feature walks through how they did it: starting from expertise they already had, renting a 200-square-foot office for $750 a month while still working $10-an-hour day jobs, not taking a paycheck for nine months, and winning their first clients with free trial edits and cold outreach until referrals from big creators took over.
What Insider got right about Dava
Three years on, the model Insider described is the same one Dava runs today at a much larger scale: a full-time, in-house team; relationships before transactions; and a simple promise that if the content makes the creator money, the rest follows.
